Remembering Emma - Mothers in Zion

A Birthday Celebration of Emma Smith

& Women of Scripture

July 10th - 12th, 2024

Regional Gathering

Grand Junction - Colorado

The intention of this gathering is to celebrate and honor Emma Smith. The date chosen for this is Emma Smith's birthday the 10th of July. Emma's life holds lessons, experience and knowledge needful for all women facing todays challenges and any woman who seeks to understand her wisdom, will find her. We need to remember ourselves to The Elect Lady Emma as much as we remember ourselves to Joseph her beloved companion. Emma connects us to our Mother Sarah, as Joseph connects us to Our Father Abraham.

Brigham Young said of Emma,

"To my certain knowledge, Emma Smith is one of the damnedest liars I know of on this earth; yet there is no good thing I would refuse to do for her, if she would only be a righteous woman; but she will continue in her wickedness. Not six months before the death of Joseph, he called his wife Emma into a secret council, and there he told her the truth, and called upon her to deny it if she could. He told her that the judgments of God would come upon her forthwith if she did not repent. He told her of the time she undertook to poison him, and he told her that she was a child of hell, and literally the most wicked woman on this earth, that there was not one more wicked than she. He told here where she got the poison, and how she put it in a cup of coffee; said he ‘You got that poison from so and so, and I drank it, but you could not kill me.’ When it entered his stomach he went to the door and threw it off. he spoke to her in that council in a very severe manner, and she never said one word in reply. I have witnesses of this scene all around, who can testify that I am now telling the truth. Twice she undertook to kill him. [Utah Historical Quarterly, vol. 48, Winter 1980, 82] October 1868 General Conference, also found at The Complete Discourses of Brigham Young, Vol. 4, p. 2378."

This gathering is a symbolic rejection of Brigham Young's damnation of Emma. Brigham's incorrect and damning narrative has been perpetuated among those churches and groups who come from the Restoration through Joseph Smith. Most believe Emma lost her faith and left the church, rather, the opposite is true.

Brigham accused Emma of attempted murder and then accused Emma of being responsible for Joseph's death. Brigham viewed Emma as a threat to his kingdom because she was a woman of covenantal 'fair beauty' and wisdom and she saw right through him; and because Joseph loved Emma. Brigham's jealousy perpetuated his lies of Emma as being an apostate and an opponent of the church, thereby turning hearts cold towards Emma and her young children in the very extremity of her grief, when she needed a loving, safe, supportive community.

Today, the continuing misconception of Emma has alienated her from the church and the Restoration altogether leaving us but a shadow connected to her name. This was Brigham's intent indeed. This can no longer be so, we women, today...need to be mothered by Emma, Emma holds knowledge we need to comprehend.

Emma represents Faith, Courage, Love, Obedience, Loyalty, selfless Service and ultimate Sacrifice. Emma was given the title by the Lord "Elect Lady" this is not ill-suited, Our Lord also gave this title to another Elect and Beloved Companion, which we can read about in the scriptures.

Speakers will talk of Emma and Joseph, Sarah, the Woman at the well, and other Women of Scripture whose stories, testimony, heartache and trials, repentance, faith and hope brought them closer to the Lord and thereby they became a righteous strength and comfort to their companions and communities. We will be talking about the Role of Women today and how Their stories represent us. We hope we can teach our daughters the importance of the divine role and ministry within their womanhood.

Ildi Ingraham”s relationship with music started when she was very young. Her mother taught her Hungarian folk songs and took her to musicals, both on film and on stage. She loved all of it, but the one that stood out as the best was when, as a teenager, she saw Godspell on stage in Boston. She left the theatre skipping and singing the songs from the musical out loud. She decided to pursue a career in theatre, but as a theatre major at Boston University, realized that it wasn’t right for her. Instead, she opted for singing various styles of music, everything from rock to folk, jazz and opera.
In the 1990s, she heard singing bowls for the first time and was smitten. Since then, she has collected 16 singing bowls, a gong, chimes and 7 drums.
Her other passion is alternative healing arts.
Sound healing has changed her life. Since she’s been working with her instruments, her health has vastly improved. Chronic fatigue is now a thing of the past.
She still loves to sing and weaves her voice in with her instruments.
Ildi is very excited to play beautiful music for you that can have the effect of bringing you closer to the Divine.
To participate in this event, please bring a mat to lie on, a pillow,
blanket and eye covering.

What to bring:
Lunch, Drinks and Snacks
Dessert and Treats provided
Hat and Sunscreen
A Blanket or Yoga Mat to lay on and a eye mask to block out the sun while you enjoy the Crystal Bowls.

Sound Bath is $20 per person paid directly to Ildi on the day.
